STEP 19 - LOSS OF LIBIDO

broken image

Women often find that they experience changes to their LIBIDO during perimenopause and menopause.

Reduced levels of estrogen and progesterone may affect the sex drive, so it is not uncommon for women to experience a decrease in the desire for sex. Not all women experience such changes, but the symptom is often reported as one that is more difficult to manage.

Dropping estrogen and testosterone levels can make it more difficult for women to become aroused. If vaginal dryness is an issue this can mean that sex is uncomfortable. During menopause, the wall of the vagina becomes thinner, drier and less elastic due to the decline of estrogen in the body. This can cause itching, irritation and/or discomfort during sexual intercourse. These changes are usually seen once periods have ceased for more than twelve months, but they can start to occur in perimenopause.

Other factors that can contribute to an overall decrease in libido include mood swings, sleep disruption (especially if tiredness or exhaustion results from night sweats), low mood, and weight gain.

Although some couples find they are content with the in change in their level of sexual activity, the decrease can trouble other couples, and it is important to seek help as there are many support options available.

Including Essential Oils. Below is a list of Essential Oils that can help to support a healthy libido:

• Ylang Ylang
